{"id":3306,"date":"2014-12-12T11:58:45","date_gmt":"2014-12-12T10:58:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/daharicomores.org\/?p=3306"},"modified":"2026-05-14T15:13:04","modified_gmt":"2026-05-14T13:13:04","slug":"plan-strategique-2020-1214","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/daharicomores.org\/en\/plan-strategique-2020-1214\/","title":{"rendered":"Dahari by 2020: Workshop on the Five-Year Strategic Plan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica;\"><em>From November 30 to December 2, 2014, Dahari held a brainstorming workshop at the Mirontsy fishing school to draft the NGO\u2019s 2015\u20132020 strategic plan. The workshop concluded on the third day with a ceremony\u2014attended by representatives from both state and non-state institutions\u2014to present the key outlines of this five-year action plan. These three days of deliberations, which were crucial to the NGO\u2019s future, were made possible through the financial support of our partner, the WWF. Four representatives from our international partners\u2014Durrell, the WWF, CIRAD, and Blue Ventures\u2014participated in the workshop, joining a working group composed of the Dahari team and members of the organization\u2019s General Assembly and Board of Directors.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica;\"><strong>The strategic planning workshop: two days of group reflection and brainstorming<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica;\">November 30th and 1<sup>Oh<\/sup>\u00a0December, participants were divided into working groups to brainstorm various ways to enhance Dahari\u2019s impact. Five key questions were posed:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica;\">How can we improve our current interventions?<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica;\">what new activities should be integrated into the existing areas?<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica;\">To what extent should the area of \u200b\u200bintervention be expanded?<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica;\">What new areas of activity should be developed?<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica;\">How can the NGO\u2019s functioning be strengthened?<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-3308\" src=\"https:\/\/daharicomores.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/IMG_3864.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"673\" height=\"448\" srcset=\"https:\/\/daharicomores.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/IMG_3864.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/daharicomores.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/IMG_3864-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/daharicomores.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/IMG_3864-768x512.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 673px) 100vw, 673px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica;\">The results of the brainstorming workshop will be used to draft a strategic plan for the 2015\u20132020 period, as well as a capacity-building plan for the team. These documents will be prepared by the NGO\u2019s team over the coming weeks, then reviewed by the Board of Directors, discussed with the communities, and finally validated by the General Assembly.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica;\"><strong>The launch ceremony for the 2015\u20132020 action plan<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica;\">On Tuesday, December 2, 2014, a ceremony was held to present the initial results of the workshop focused on the strategic plan. The event took place at the Alliance Franco-Comorienne in Mutsamudu, with members of civil society and representatives from the Ministry of Production and the administration of the autonomous island of Anjouan in attendance.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica;\">We welcomed Mr. Ali Djoumoi, Advisor to the President for the agricultural sector; Mr. Mohamed Ali Houmadi, Chief of Staff to the Minister of Production, Environment, Energy, Industry, and Crafts of the Union of the Comoros; Mr. Mohadji Asnaoui, Director General of INRAPE (National Research Institute for Agriculture, Fisheries, and the Environment); and Mr. Houmadi Daoud, Commissioner in charge of the promotion of production, the economy, investments, and territorial development\u2014with responsibility for water, energy, and the environment\u2014for the autonomous island of Anjouan.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20200804060125\/https:\/\/daharicomores.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/IMG_4093.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-4006\" src=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20200804060125im_\/https:\/\/daharicomores.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/IMG_4093-300x199.jpg\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20200804060125im_\/https:\/\/daharicomores.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/IMG_4093-300x199.jpg 300w, https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20200804060125im_\/https:\/\/daharicomores.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/IMG_4093.jpg 1024w\" alt=\"IMG_4093\" width=\"300\" height=\"199\" \/><\/a>Technical Director Hugh Doulton presented the priorities identified for the 2015\u20132020 period:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica;\">In terms of<strong>agricultural support<\/strong>, interventions will continue to be improved, and innovations will be identified with the support of CIRAD.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica;\">For the\u00a0<strong>management of terrestrial natural resources<\/strong>Dahari will support community leaders who are motivated to protect wood and water resources, and will help them safeguard small forest areas to begin with.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica;\">Questions regarding\u00a0<strong>Ecological research<\/strong>\u00a0have been identified for the purpose of studying flagship species and monitoring the forest and deforestation. Among the initial conservation initiatives, Livingstone\u2019s fruit bat will be prioritized.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"translation-block\">Commercial activities will be strengthened to generate income for the communities and to support Dahari\u2019s operations. This includes ecotourism, consulting, and the importation of high-quality seeds.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica;\">The\u00a0<strong>new areas of activity<\/strong>\u00a0have been identified: education, integrated management of marine and coastal resources, and family planning and nutrition activities. Initial activities in these areas will be carried out through local partners, with the support of international partners.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"translation-block\">Regarding <strong>governance and monitoring and evaluation<\/strong>, the Board of Directors and the management team will receive coaching through exchange visits with partner NGOs. A capacity-building plan for the entire team and its members will be developed.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20200804060125\/https:\/\/daharicomores.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/IMG_4073.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-4010\" src=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20200804060125im_\/https:\/\/daharicomores.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/IMG_4073-300x199.jpg\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20200804060125im_\/https:\/\/daharicomores.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/IMG_4073-300x199.jpg 300w, https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20200804060125im_\/https:\/\/daharicomores.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/IMG_4073.jpg 1024w\" alt=\"IMG_4073\" width=\"300\" height=\"199\" \/><\/a>In his speech, Anllaouddine Abou, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Dahari, stated that the development initiatives undertaken by Dahari must be carried out with the support of both state and non-state institutions:\u00a0<em>\"We are seeking the support of all institutions working in the Comoros, as well as all key individuals with expertise in the areas where the NGO Dahari operates, to help implement the organization\u2019s 2015\u20132020 Action Plan. I hope that Dahari\u2019s leadership will be able to strengthen partnerships and collaboration with other stakeholders active in the Comoros.\"<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica;\"><strong>A positive outlook for the future of Dahari<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica;\">The outcome of these three days is more than satisfactory: extensive reflection has taken place, innovative ideas have been put forward, Comorian civil society has been informed of the decisions, and international partners have expressed their satisfaction.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-3309 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/daharicomores.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/fidy-268x300-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"93\" height=\"104\" \/>Fidy Ralison, marine program coordinator for WWF Madagascar, emphasizes that he came to the Comoros with a sense of hope.<em>\u00a0\u201cIs there an organization in the Comoros that could make a difference and serve as an inspiration? That is what Dahari represents to me. I have been moved by everything you have managed to undertake.\u201d<\/em>, nous a-t-il confi\u00e9.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica;\"><em><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-3310 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/daharicomores.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/claude-300x283-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"104\" height=\"98\" \/><\/em>For his part, Claude Vuillaume, a territorial cooperation officer at CIRAD, commends the values \u200b\u200bshared by the Dahari team:\u00a0<em>\"My participation\u2014and that of CIRAD\u2014made possible by your invitation, alongside international NGOs WWF, Durrell, and Blue Ventures, allowed me to discover a team of exceptional quality, both in human terms and in terms of scientific and technical expertise, characterized by total commitment and a strong sense of solidarity among all staff.\"<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica;\"><em><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-3311 alignleft\" style=\"font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', 'Bitstream Charter', Times, serif;\" src=\"https:\/\/daharicomores.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/Kitty-269x300-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"98\" height=\"109\" \/><\/em>As for Kitty Brayne, a coordinator for the NGO Blue Ventures in Madagascar, she also happens to be a former member of the Dahari team. She recounts: <em>\"We put a great deal of work into creating this NGO. I left when it was still just a concept. Returning today, I see a very strong identity\u2014you share a true team spirit and a set of values.
