With the aim of expanding its area of \u200b\u200boperation, and thanks to the technical and financial support of the respectiveIcraf<\/a>\u00a0and of theUnion europ\u00e9enne<\/a>Dahari has just embarked on a prospecting phase that will take place throughout the month of January on Anjouan.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Through village-level surveys, the objective is to identify three watersheds that meet the expansion criteria established by the NGO. To this end, the dedicated assessment team will identify key resources within each watershed, priority needs regarding the use of natural resources, major challenges faced by land users, and the relevant local stakeholders. Consultations will be held with other actors operating in the villages to discuss potential synergies and collaborations. This process will involve meetings with authorities, organizations, and local stakeholders; discussions with land users; site visits to the watersheds (covering agricultural areas, degraded land, water sources, biodiversity, etc.); and feedback sessions within the villages.<\/span><\/p>\n

Initial prospecting will be carried out in the villages of Jimilim\u00e9, Janza, BadraLajanza, Koni, Limbi, and Bandrakouni\u2014locations where producer groups have requested support. Several criteria will guide the selection of areas for expansion. These include existing or potentially mobilizable social dynamics (such as local associations, agricultural groups, cooperatives, women\u2019s activities, or ongoing natural resource management initiatives); production-related constraints (access to seeds, inputs, and the techniques employed, etc.); the marketing of local agricultural products; and the presence\u2014past or present\u2014of other projects (run by the government, NGOs, etc.). Furthermore, consideration will be given to the villagers' openness to change\u2014which can help generate a rapid impact\u2014as well as the potential for action in rural development, natural resource management, and biodiversity conservation. Other factors include the presence of degraded land currently being farmed by vulnerable producers, and proximity to existing sites, which will facilitate travel and the management of human resources.<\/span><\/p>\n
