Located in the heart of the Indian Ocean, the Comoros Islands are home to exceptional marine biodiversity that is essential to the wellbeing of coastal communities. However, overfishing, pollution and climate change now threaten these coral reefs and the food security of the people who depend on them.<\/h3>\n\n

Our key results since 2018<\/h2>\n\nreefs managed through conservation measures, including temporary closures, permanent reserves and fishing method restrictions.\n\n

To address these challenges, the Dahari Marine Programme supports fishermen and fisherwomen in the sustainable management of reef ecosystems. Our objective is to establish a network of permanent community marine reserves where fishing is prohibited, building on the success of the country's first permanent reserve, created in 2021 with the fishing community of Vassy, which now serves as a model for neighbouring villages.<\/p>\n\n

We also support complementary initiatives, including temporary octopus fishing closures and the reduction of destructive fishing techniques.<\/p>\n\n
