Continuing the format launched last year, our 2024 Annual Report offers a visual immersion into the heart of our actions. Through powerful images and inspiring testimonies from our beneficiaries, we highlight those who bring our programs to life: Forests, Agroforests, Marine, and Grande Comore. Here is the editorial:
1- Payment of the first 30 beneficiaries of forest conservation agreements
The payment ceremony for the first 30 beneficiaries of the conservation agreements was held in the village of Adda on Saturday 7 December. The farmers who signed agreed not to cut native trees or exploit their plots, thus contributing to the restoration of the forest. Each beneficiary also received a vest or scarf bearing the agreements’ logo, symbolising their role as guardians of the water (Walezi wa ya maji)This payment was made following rigorous monitoring of the plots to verify compliance with the commitments made. In 2025, we will draw lessons from this pilot phase to prepare for scaling up the programme.
2- Development of the partnership with the NGO GRET
In 2024 our Agroforestry teams in Anjouan and Grande Comore hosted two missions from the NGO GRET. This partnership aims to strengthen farmer-led research on vegetable and staple crops, to identify improved agroecological techniques suited to local realities. In 2025, this partnership will be intensified with a view to developing a strategy to ensure an agroecological transition for the Comoros.
3- Finalisation of our new marine strategy
We were delighted to publish our new marine strategy at the start of 2025, following 18 months of reflection with stakeholders at local, national and international levels, and building on the success of the first fisher-led permanent reserve in the Comoros, facilitated by Dahari in 2021. We aim to restore the country’s reefs by establishing a network of fisher-led reserves, which will maximise benefits for fisheries and biodiversity, while promoting mutual learning and support among fishers.
4- Capacity building for Dahari’s managers
Dahari’s 10 managers undertook two weeks of training with the NGO Maliasili, complemented by individual coaching, to strengthen their management and leadership skills. In June, the first training session focused on personal leadership, covering topics such as power, trust, different personality types and developing one’s own leadership style. In November, a second session on team leadership emphasised organisational culturebuilding high-performing teams and non-violent communication.
5- Successful transfer to SAGE accounting
Our administration team, supported by a consultant, completed the transfer of our accounting system to SAGE Compta100c v10. This was complex work but essential to support the NGO’s growth with rigorous financial monitoring.
Finally, to mark this decade of impact and work (2013 to 2023), almost the entire Dahari team traveled to the island of Mohéli in October for a three-day stay, combining discovery, team-building, and immersion in the island's natural beauty. It was an opportunity to celebrate our achievements, strengthen our bonds, and recharge our batteries in this exceptional setting.
We look forward to seeing the evolution of our programs in 2025!
