On May 28, the Dahari team organized a field visit to present the NGO's agricultural activities to an official delegation.
Ibrahim Said, executive director of the NGO Dahari, tells us.
“On Wednesday, May 28, 2014, as Executive Director of the NGO Dahari, I led the tour of Mr. Houmadi Daoud, Commissioner in charge of Production and the Environment of the autonomous island of Anjouan accompanied by its Secretary General, Mr. Dhoiharou Toilha in the villages of intervention of the NGO Dahari and in the CRDE of Salamani.
The tour began in the villages of Adda and Outsa, where I showed the commissioner around the model plots of farmers benefiting from support from the NGO Dahari. On these plots he learned about the varieties of imported high-performance seeds (taro, sweet potato and potato). He also saw the development of the plots to ensure sustainable soil management.
At the CRDE of Salamani, this was the highlight of the visit: the Commissioner listened to our explanations on the innovative agricultural techniques developed on the site (sowing techniques under plant cover, drip irrigation) and the improvements made on the “Agricultural Livestock Integration” (IAE) approach with a Beef Park model meeting the fodder and water needs for agricultural and livestock activities on the plots.
At the end of the tour, I felt great interest from the Commissioner and his Secretary General in the model of technical supervision of agricultural producers in the villages. He appreciated the presence of Dahari agronomic engineers alongside the producers, who stay 24 hours a day, four days a week in the villages.
This field visit allowed us to strengthen our collaboration with the Commission in charge of Production and the Environment. Our NGO hopes to be able to assist the Commissioner with the implementation of their policy and work plan, collaborate on regional events, and have the support of the Commissioner on administrative and political aspects. The ideal would be, in partnership with the police station, to replicate our intervention model in other areas of the autonomous island of Ndzuwani. »
