Team Dahari 2026

Dahari relies on 58 employees coordinated by a management team of eleven people, including four directors.

It comprises six sub-teams: Forestry Programme, Agroforestry Programme, Marine Programme, Grande Comore, Community Agents, Administration and Communication.

Abasse Abdou
Chief Accountant

Abasse earned a two-year technical degree (DUT) in administrative management from the University of the Comoros, followed by a Master's degree in finance and accounting in Madagascar. He began his career at Orange in Madagascar as a call center agent before returning to Anjouan to manage a Telma store. He joined Dahari in May 2017 as an accounting assistant.
Today he is the Chief Accountant and is responsible for managing expenses, monitoring general accounting, preparing financial statements and monitoring bank cash flow.

Abdallah Abdoul-Hakim
Technician Grande Comore

Abdoul Hakim completed an agricultural training course at the National Horticultural Center in Mvouni, Grand Comore. After several years of experience working on his own in agriculture, he joined Dahari in 2022 as a technician. He supports local farmers to improve their yields while experimenting with agroecological practices.

Junior Accountant

Abdallah Anmar has extensive experience in accounting management. He worked for 11 years at Comores Telecom as an Accounting Officer in the Anjouan Regional Directorate. He joined Dahari in 2025 to strengthen the Administration team and manage the accounting department.

Marine Technician

Abdallah graduated with a Master 2 in Geography from the University of Tuléar, Madagascar. After returning to the Comoros, he joined Dahari in 2022 for his first professional experience. Abdallah works mainly in the Commune of Moya as a technician for the marine program. It works with local fishermen's associations to promote marine management initiatives and build the capacity of association members.

Abdillah, a farmer from father to son in the village of Ivembéni, was supported in agroecology as part of the agricultural program led by Dahari in Ngazidja. He became, thanks to his knowledge of the village and the Massif de La Grille, the community relay of Ivembéni in 2022.

Aboubacar Zahahé
Charged Grande Comore

Holding a master's degree in Agronomy and Local Development Management, Aboubacar is responsible for the Rural Development team in Ngazidja. He coordinates and monitors field activities while also providing technical assistance in developing the intervention strategy on the island of the capital.

Aboulkader Fardane
Forestry Technician

Abdoulkader studied life and earth sciences at the University of the Comoros. His role involves assisting nursery owners with tree production for reforestation campaigns. Abdoulkader also works on the ecological aspect of his work. Livingstone counting, georeferencing, and habitat data collection are part of his daily tasks. Above all, it allows him to be more connected to nature, something he is passionate about.

Historian, Africanist and land specialist, Ainouddine is a graduate of the Universities of Dakar, Sorbonne Nouvelle and INALCO. He is a former professor at the University of the Comoros and former Director General of the CNDRS.

Treasurer of the Board of Directors

Ali is the Director of the microcredit institution Les Sanduks d'Anjouan. After studying agronomy in France, he managed rural development programs before founding Les Sanduks in the 1990s.

Community Agent

It was in 2013 that Alilioifa began working with Dahari as a community relay. It mainly operates in the Moya region south of Anjouan. With Maecha and CRDE Ngandzalé, Alilioifa completed a year of agricultural training. This allows him to train farmers in the absence of the responsible technician.

Marine Technician

Amina plays a vital role in collecting fisheries monitoring data and community mobilization for the implementation of marine resource management initiatives, specifically in the village of Dzindri. It was in 2017 that she joined Dahari after obtaining her bachelor's degree from the University of Comoros in life sciences.

Marine Technician

In 2018, Aniati completed an internship at Dahari, focusing on monitoring and counting Livingstone's fruit bats. The following year, she earned her Bachelor's degree in Life Sciences from the University of the Comoros. In 2023, she seized the opportunity to apply to Dahari's forestry program. After several months of internships in biodiversity monitoring and aerial mapping of the forest, Aniati became a Dahari employee in 2024.

Senior Accountant

After obtaining a master's degree in finance and accounting in Antananarivo, Angela joined Dahari as an accounting assistant for her first professional experience in the Comoros. She is responsible for supplier and service provider relations, purchasing and monitoring office supplies, and supporting her team in carrying out numerous administrative and accounting tasks.

Vice-President of the Board of Directors

Anllaouddine is a professor of ecology at the University of the Comoros in Moroni. He has worked with several international institutions including the FAO, IFAD and GEF on interventions in the Comoros focused on environmental impacts, climate change, natural resource management and endangered species.

Community Relay

Anzraki has been working on behalf of Dahari since 2020 in the villages of Iméré, Salamni, Dzindiri and Vassy. Graduated with a degree in agronomy in Madagascar, he raises awareness among local farmers for the implementation of our programs. It is he who takes care of the reception and distribution of materials for the beneficiaries.

Chairman of the Board of Directors

Dr. Anssoufouddine Mohamed is a cardiologist at Hombo Hospital in Mutsamudu. He is committed to the fight against non-communicable diseases, including cardiovascular diseases and diabetes. A poet and fiction writer, he is active in the cultural scene through the Soirhane Club in Mirontsy.

Community Agent

Assane Anli carries out his functions as a community relay in the Adda region. After benefiting from agricultural training during the ECDD project, he joined Dahari in 2016. His daily missions consist of monitoring demonstration plots. Among other things, Assane organizes training and meetings between our technicians and beneficiaries.

Senior Agroforests Technician

Assani Hambali, nicknamed “Domoni”, has specialized in the agricultural field since 1982. He started as a technician in the Support for Small Producers of Nioumakélé project, then became an agricultural technician in the DECVAS project before joining the PNDHD project and Dahari. He started as an agricultural technician in Bimbini-Lingoni before becoming zone manager.

Security agent

Bacar ensures the security of our premises and also provides invaluable support with maintenance and logistics. A Dahari employee for many years, he is one of the pillars of the NGO.

Community Agent

Bahati works on the Marin program in the village of Salamani ya Dzindri. She monitors octopus and fish drying activities with fishing associations. She also oversees agricultural support for fishermen and regularly mobilizes association members.

Badrane Ben Ali Abdou
Forestry Technician

In 2016, Badrane obtained his Master's degree in Life and Environmental Sciences in Zoology at the University of Mahajanga. Since 2017, he has worked with Dahari as an intern on Livingstone counting, population and habitat monitoring, and GPS monitoring of Livingstones. In 2022, Badrane joined Dahari as a Technician on Livingstone's GPS tag research program. Today, he is involved in the Forest Program's activities on Conservation Agreements and monitors the support given to signatories of co-management agreements for dormitory sites for the protection of Livingstones.

Senior Agroforests Technician

Combo studied at the National School of Agriculture in Mohéli. He worked for 15 years as a veterinary technician on the island before joining the Dahari team in September 2016 as an agricultural technician. He works with farmers in villages in the southern part of Anjouan Island and also manages livestock.

Communications Agent

After studying law at the University of the Comoros, El-yasser, nicknamed Ely, joined the field of communication through his involvement in the Club Soirhane de Mirontsy, which works to promote Comorian culture. In 2024, he joined Dahari as an intern to further develop his communication skills. In 2025, he became a full-time communications officer and became the relay for Dahari's field activities and the communications department.

Fahad Ali M'madi
Logistician

From 2017 to 2023, Fahad worked for Coca-Cola Comoros in Patsy as a quality control and assistant stock controller. During the 2023 cholera outbreak, he volunteered with the Comorian Red Cross in Mutsamudu, supervising the local team and monitoring water treatment. Towards the end of 2024, he joined Dahari, where he holds the position of logistics officer, facilitating field operations and managing Dahari's fleet of vehicles and motorcycles.

Senior Marine Technician

Fakidine studied in Conakry, where he earned his Master's degree in community development before joining the Dahari team in 2019. He contributes to the implementation of marine program interventions in the Darsalama area. He works closely with technicians from Dahari's various intervention areas in the villages of Bandrani ya Vouani, Chirove, and Darsalama, as well as the fisheries monitoring team.

Sailor Manager

Responsible for assessing marine biodiversity, he supervises community technicians for field activities. It also ensures fishing monitoring as part of the evaluation of communities' fishing effort and ecological monitoring.

With extensive experience in marine conservation in various tropical countries, Effy has supported the development of the marine program and its team since 2017. She joined Dahari in January 2016 as a socio-economic research officer in the marine management component after four years of work in the ECDD (Community Engagement for Sustainable Development) project. Fatima studied natural sciences at the University of Mahajanga, where she obtained a master's degree with a specialization in waste management. She is currently in charge of mobilizing marine activities in the Vassy area.

Technical monitoring and evaluation assistant

After a master's degree in physics and five years of experience analyzing environmental data for the private sector, Francesco joined Dahari in 2024 to support the data needs of its Forest and Marine programs. He contributes to the definition of data collection strategies, proposes innovative GIS solutions, and transforms data into levers for action. He also participates in strengthening the team's IT skills through training and workshops.

A graduate of the University of the Comoros, Haboulati joined the NGO Dahari for her first job as a community mobilizer on the rural development team. Today, she contributes to the implementation of marine program interventions in the Moya and Darsalam area and is responsible for participatory mobilization and awareness-raising among fishermen and communities regarding the implementation of management measures and other actions of the marine program.

Community Agent

Hachim works in the village of Ouzini. He joined Dahari in 2021 as community relays. He brings his experiences to the various training courses on sustainable agricultural techniques that benefit farmers. Monitoring and maintaining banana sprouts is also part of its program.

Forest Technician

After her Master 2 in Agroecology, Biodiversity and Climate Change from the Higher School of Agronomic Sciences of the University of Antananarivo, Hishma worked at the Comoros Environmental Study Bureau (BEE) in 2024, before joining Dahari in 2025. She is currently involved in the implementation of the Forests program on forest conservation agreements with farmers.

Advisor to the Board of Directors

Himdata Aboubacar has been teaching mathematics and life and earth sciences in Moroni since 1993. A member of Dahari since its creation in February 2013, she is currently the general secretary of the board of directors.

Co-Director

After studying biology at Oxford University and earning a master's degree in environment and international development from the University of East Anglia, Hugh embarked on the ECDD adventure in 2007, a project he had developed following research in the Comoros in 2005. He is one of the founding members of the NGO Dahari and served as Technical Director until 2017, when he became Strategic Advisor while supporting other local conservation NGOs in East Africa and in Madagascar for Maliasili. He returned as co-Director in 2020 to further the NGO's strategic development.

Community Agent

Ibrahim has long worked independently in livestock farming, agriculture, and ylang-ylang production. In 2022, he joined Dahari as a community worker in the village of Maweni. His work involves monitoring fishing activities as part of the marine program, as well as assisting farmers with planting and seed searches. He acts as a link between farmers and Dahari technicians to quickly report any challenges encountered in the field.

Technician Grande Comore

Ibrahim holds a Master 2 in Environment and Regional Planning from the University of Antananarivo (Ankatso). Before joining Dahari, he worked for the Banda-Bitsi association, which is involved in environmental protection, on environmental monitoring and assessment. In 2024, he joined Dahari as part of an internship and today he is a full-time technician in environmental and social studies, as part of the Massif de la forest restoration project. After earning a bachelor's degree in Earth and Environmental Sciences from the University of the Comoros, he continued his studies in Madagascar, where he obtained a Master's degree in Geosciences and Technology. He joined Dahari in 2019 as a community mobilizer. Today, Ibrahim coordinates the social activities of the Forestry and Reforestation Program. He also contributes to the development of the program's strategy and approach. He ensures that the forest conservation actions implemented in the villages align with the Dahari approach.

Isabella Mandl
Endangered species intervention researcher

Isabella is a postdoctoral researcher working for Bat Conservation International. She has been working with Dahari since 2018 on research and the protection of Livingstone's fruit bat populations in Anjouan, and, drawing on her expertise in behavioral ecology and conservation, she leads the ongoing GPS tracking study of the bats. With Dahari, she studies bat movements and resource use in the Anjouan landscape. She has also shared insights into Dahari's ecological research, including the annual monitoring of fruit bats, and assists in disseminating research findings to the public.

Ishaka has developed extensive expertise in biodiversity through 20 years of experience in Comorian forests working on various research and conservation projects. He is also a specialist in Comorian birds. Since 2008, he has been part of the ECDD project before becoming an ecological technician at Dahari and his first ecotourism guide.

Since 2022, Malidé Bouchroine has been our community agent in the marine program, where he works primarily in Kowé and sometimes in the commune of Moya. He is responsible for monitoring fisheries in these different intervention areas and mobilizing local fishing associations for meetings, training sessions, and awareness campaigns on marine resource management.

Holding a master's degree in natural and environmental resource management from the University of Tamatave, he joined the ECDD project early on as a facilitator. His extensive field experience and skills enabled him to become the executive director of Dahari upon its creation in 2013. He then received a capacity-building grant from the UK government's Darwin Initiative to pursue training in conservation and sustainable development in England, France, and Madagascar. He returned to the Comoros a year later to serve as strategic coordinator, then technical director, and finally co-director.

Senior Agroforests Technician

Originally from Adda, Mourdi is an agricultural engineer, a graduate of the Higher Institute of Agronomy and Veterinary Medicine in Guinea Conakry. Upon returning to Guinea, he became a biology teacher at a private school in Salamani and simultaneously founded an agricultural association in Niumakélé. In 2016, he joined Dahari as an agricultural technician to mobilize producers and provide training and conduct visits in the villages of Moya and Kowé. Today, he works in the villages of Ngandzalé, Salamani, and Ouzini.

After an initial career as a Gendarme in the Comoros' internal security forces, Moustali worked as a tour guide from 2001, allowing him to explore every corner of Anjouan Island. In 2023, he joined the Dahari team as a driver. He also handles procurement for the NGO.

Moustoifa holds a Master II in marine sciences and specializes in applied oceanography from the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Antsiranana (UNA).

He is determined to carry out his conservation missions through his work on reef and fisheries monitoring.

Moustoifa is a farmer-breeder in Maouéni, in the Massif de La region. Grille, on the island of Ngazidja. Leader of a Dahari beneficiary group since 2020, he accompanied our teams for a socio-economic study of the area. Through his dynamism, commitment and motivation, he joins our Grande Comore team as a community relay. He trains in the agroecological practices that we promote, ensuring the link with the villagers, monitoring activities (training, planting, germination, PDD, etc.) and implementing techniques that respect our environment.

A graduate in diplomatic communication, Nadjil began his career by opening an educational guidance center on Anjouan. He then joined Dahari as a communications officer. Senior Marine Technician

Nassuboudine, better known as Nassub, is a Master II graduate in biochemistry, microbiology and applied biotechnology at the University of Mahajanga Madagascar. A GRM technician since 2020, Nassub plays an active role in the implementation of activities aimed at sustainable and community management of marine resources. He supervises activities to promote fishing products, as well as the implementation of sustainable fishing techniques as an alternative to destructive techniques.

With a degree in Earth and Environmental Sciences from Patsy University, Nastazia initially joined Dahari as an intern in the ecology department, where she conducted Livingstone's fruit bat counts and sampled nocturnal terrestrial reptiles. She then joined the team full-time as a natural resource management technician, and now contributes to participatory monitoring, reforestation efforts, fruit bat counts, and map development.

Owen Lewis
Scientific Advisor on Forest Biodiversity

Owen is a professor of ecology at the University of Oxford in the UK. His research team studies the impacts of environmental change on plant and animal communities, particularly in tropical forests, and the resulting effects on ecosystem services. One of his main objectives is to develop landscape-scale solutions to maintain biodiversity and the livelihoods of local communities. Owen first worked in the Comoros in the 1990s, studying the islands' endemic butterflies. More recently, he has provided strategic and technical advice to Dahari on mapping and monitoring biodiversity and forests, helping to shape conservation priorities.

Raïssa has worked at Dahari since 2019, where she joined after studying anthropobiology and sustainable development at the University of Antananarivo in Madagascar. She uses her skills to support her role as a community mobilizer. Passionate about working with farmers, she listens to their needs and supports them in their daily activities.

Senior Agroforests Technician

After a Master II in sustainable agriculture and water resource management, Roifiki continued his studies to become a rural engineering engineer at the Valéry Giscard d'Estaing Higher Institute of Agronomy and Veterinary Medicine in Faranah (ISAV-VGE) in Guinea.

His work at Dahari allows him to pursue a job that aligns with his personal values; indeed, he contributes to improving the living conditions of farmers and their families both in rural areas and those living in villages in coastal areas.

Roukayda holds a bachelor's degree in geography from the University of the Comoros, Patsy site. Since 2022, Roukayda has worked in the marine program as a community agent in the Moya region. She is responsible for fisheries monitoring data in this area and monitoring fishing associations.

Secretary General of the Board of Directors

Said specialized in rural development at the University of Picardy Jules Verne in France. As a UNDP/GEF project manager in the environmental sector from 1998 to 2006, he gained extensive experience in designing and coordinating sustainable natural resource management projects, as well as in the organizational development of local communities. He is also well-versed in the intricacies of Comorian administration, having served as Secretary General of the Ministry of Agriculture and the Environment, Secretary General of the Comorian Government, and Secretary General of the Assembly of the Union of the Comoros, positions he held successively from 2006 to 2018. He currently owns the Vanilla Lodge hotel in Mohéli.

Communications advisor

Sean Southey is currently CEO of the Canadian Wildlife Federation, one of Canada’s largest environmental organizations. He has over 30 years of experience in international development and communications, including with UNDP, Rare, and PCI Media. In 2016, Sean was elected Chair of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Commission on Education and Communication (CEC). In this role, he worked tirelessly to improve IUCN’s use of strategic communications for social change. Sean brings his expertise to Dahari to ensure effective communication with farmers and fishers about its forest and reef conservation programs.

Siti studied Philosophy at the University of Tamatave in Madagascar before specializing in natural resource management. She has been involved with Dahari since the association's inception, initially as a facilitator and then as an agricultural technician. In early 2014, Siti took on the role of Monitoring and Evaluation Officer, and subsequently became Director of Human Resources and Social Mobilization.

Senior Forestry Technician

Salim holds a master's degree in environment and land management from the University of Tananarive. He first applied his skills as head of the Anjouan forestry service at the Regional Directorate of the Environment, then as head of prospective studies at the Regional Directorate of Urban Planning and Housing. He joined Dahari as a reforestation technician and community mobilizer, responsible for monitoring nurseries, georeferencing reforested areas, raising awareness among community groups, and overseeing agricultural activities.

Originally from Mrémani, Samirou studied economics at the University of Antananarivo in Madagascar, where he earned a Master's degree in Project Management and Local Development. After an internship at Ndzuani Gold, he joined Dahari as a natural resource management officer. Today, he is the head of the Forestry program and manages the implementation of technical activities, including data collection in the areas and plots targeted in conservation agreements and the establishment of tree nurseries.

Ngandzalé and Salamani are the main areas of intervention for Taoufic Saïd. He debuted with Dahari in 2020 on raising awareness and popularizing sustainable agricultural techniques. It also receives various agricultural materials for the beneficiaries of our programs.

Scientific Advisor on Forests and Water

Tim is a senior lecturer in forestry at Bangor University, UK, and frequently collaborates with the International Centre for Agroforestry (ICRAF). As a systems scientist working primarily on agroforestry systems, his research focuses particularly on the capacity of trees outside forests to provide ecosystem services, resilience, and sustainable intensification. Tim has supported Dahari since 2016, contributing to watershed management and agroforestry approaches, as well as their monitoring and evaluation.

Katada studied at the Moroni National Horticultural Center before joining Dahari as manager of the Pagé site where he is responsible for seed multiplication, experiments and demonstrations.

Zarianti completed her higher education in Senegal, at an institute specializing in entrepreneurship and management, where she obtained a Master's degree in Audit and Management Control. Since May 2024, she has joined Dahari as an administrative and financial assistant. Based in Grande Comore, she handles various daily tasks related to administration and financial management.
