Identifying local knowledge compatible with the sustainable exploitation of the Anteniju sub-watershed in Adda, this is the objective of the cycle of meetings held between the producers of the territory and Dahari since September 13, 2018. The last meeting to date was that of Thursday, December 6, 2018 in Anteniju for the production of participatory mapping on the vision by 2021 of the sub-watershed. This marked the 4nd phase of the new Dahari watershed approach. An approach supported by our partnersIcraf et Darwin Initiative. A watershed is a portion of the natural territory where water flows towards the same point; it can be divided into several sub-watersheds. The Anteniju sub-watershed is currently exploited by 137 farmers, 31% of whom are women from the villages of Adda, Mremani, Kangani, Ongoju, Badrakuni and Jandza.
The previous phases made it possible to support operators in identifying the potential and the main problems relating to the sustainable exploitation of the natural resources of the sub-watershed with participatory methods such as “the plot sketch” among other tools. The results of these phases served as a basis for reflection for the definition of the vision until 2021, accompanied by planning to meet the challenges relating to the problems identified. Thus, among the priorities retained by producers, we find the conservation and protection of spring water and biodiversity, the restoration of agricultural soils, the improvement of the price of agricultural products accruing to producers, among others.
For the next meetings to validate and organize the implementation of activities, the operators of the territory are already requesting the support and accompaniment of partners like Dahari.
